Michelle Waterson-Gomez

Michelle Waterson-Gomez

Michelle Waterson-Gomez is a globally recognized martial artist, former Invicta FC Atomweight Champion, and 15-year veteran of elite-level MMA competition, including a decade-long run in the UFC. But beyond the spotlight, Michelle’s story is deeply rooted in resilience, service, and sacrifice.

As the wife of former U.S. Armed Forces Amateur Boxing Champion and Army veteran Joshua Gomez, Michelle understands the strength and challenges of military family life. Her journey reflects the same grit, discipline, and adaptability that define the warrior ethos: both inside and outside the cage. Together, she and her husband have navigated the highs and lows of professional fighting and military service, building a life centered on perseverance, loyalty, and community.

Michelle began her martial arts journey at age 10 with American freestyle karate and went on to earn a black belt, eventually transitioning to mixed martial arts, where she became a fan favorite known as “The Karate Hottie.” Her career spans over 30 professional fights, where she balanced being a top-tier athlete, a mother, a military spouse, and a role model.

Following her recent retirement from the UFC in 2024, Michelle has shifted her focus to giving back, speaking openly about the mental health challenges faced by professional athletes, veterans, and their families. She remains a vocal advocate for recovery, reinvention, and the importance of community support during life’s toughest transitions.

At her core, Michelle is more than a fighter, she’s a connector. Whether it's helping military families find grounding, supporting her husband’s coaching and boxing journey, or inspiring others to embrace the fight within, she continues to lead by example, proving that true strength comes from showing up for others with heart and humility.
