Colonel William C. (Bill) Gray, USMC (Ret.)

Bill Gray was commissioned via the NROTC program in 1993 after graduating from the University of South Carolina with a degree in Finance.  He is an Aviation Logistics officer by trade and held multiple defense acquisition billets.  Bill also had three tours on recruiting duty.

Throughout his career, Bill served in various billets within Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron (MALS) 29, Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) New River, North Carolina and MALS-11, MCAS Miramar, CA.

His deployments include:

·       MALS detachment Officer-in-Charge (OIC) for Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron (Reinforced) 264, Marine Expeditionary Unit 26 aboard the USS Wasp

·       MALS detachment OIC for Marine All Weather Fighter Attack Squadron 121 for their deployment to Manas, Kyrgyzstan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM

·       3D MAW Commanding General aide-de-camp, Operation IRAQI FREEDOM-I

·       Commanding Officer, MALS-40, 2D Marine Aircraft Wing (Forward), Camp Bastion, Afghanistan

Bill’s staff billets include:

·       Flying Hour Program budget officer (APP-22), Aviation Plans, Policy, and Budget Branch (APP), Department of Aviation, Headquarters Marine Corps, Washington, D.C.

·       Warfighter Integration Director, F-35 Joint Program Office 

·       Deputy Branch Head, Aviation Logistics Support Branch, Department of Aviation, HQMC

·       Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations (G3), Marine Corps Recruiting Command

·       Assistant Deputy Director, Europe/NATO/Russia, J-5, Joint Staff, Pentagon

Bill’s command tours include:

·       Commanding Officer, Recruiting Station Fort Worth, TX

·       Commanding Officer, MALS-31, MCAS Beaufort, SC

·       Commanding Officer, MALS-40, Camp Bastion, Afghanistan

·       Commanding Officer, 6th Marine Corps District 

Bill is a United States Naval War College graduate.  He retired from the Joint Staff in April 2023.  Bill is now the Managing Director of Operations and Talent at SteerBridge.
