Dr. Nick Boyd

Dr. Nick Boyd is an Assistant Professor at the University of San Diego, and VA San Diego Lead Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC) and Director of Clinical Training for Counseling. He received his M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of San Diego and a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of the Cumberlands.
As a Nationally Certified Counselor and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in California, Dr. Boyd has held various clinical, research, and leadership roles within the Department of Defense (DoD), Veterans Affairs (VA), and community settings. His diverse professional experience includes serving as an adjunct instructor in the Alcohol and Other Drug Studies program at San Diego City College, as well as being the Clinical Director and Co-Founder of e3 Civic High's school-based mental health counseling program, and a group practice member with the San Diego Cognitive Therapy Institute. He has also served as a board member and co-chair of the Legislative and Advocacy Committee for the California Association for Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors. In 2023, Dr. Boyd was appointed to the California Board of Behavioral Sciences by Governor Gavin Newsom as the LPCC member.
Dr. Boyd has served as an enlisted military police officer in both the Oregon and California Army National Guard. During his enlisted service, he held positions as a squad leader, honor guard member, and career counselor. He continues to serve in the California State Guard as a behavioral health officer, providing support to National Guard soldiers across California
