Beginning Farmer & Rancher Program Manager, Hoʻōla Farms

Anthony Florig is the Beginning Farmer & Rancher (BFR) Program Manager at Hoʻōla Farms, a Hilo, Hawaiʻi nonprofit focused on educating and empowering veterans, first responders, and the wider community through sustainable agriculture and food access programs. He facilitates the organization's agriculture and business workshops and courses, and joined Hoʻōla to help design and facilitate Groundwork to Grow, a series of four-week trainings for military veterans and community members interested in farming and ranching on Hawaiʻi Island. In 2022, Hoʻōla received a three-year grant from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture for its Groundwork to Grow: Agribusiness pilot, with Florig as the program's manager.

Florig works with local businesses to develop and market value-added Hawaiʻi products and has owned Big Island Box, a subscription gift box sourcing its items from Hawaiʻi Island companies. He brings more than a decade of experience in the mental health field and holds an MBA from Youngstown State University.
