Owner & Head Instructor, Archi's Institute for Sustainable Agriculture
Tony Lattner is the owner and head instructor of Archi's Institute for Sustainable Agriculture (AiSA) in Escondido, California, a workforce training program that has prepared veterans and civilians for careers in sustainable agriculture and agribusiness since 2007. A Marine Corps veteran with a teaching background, Lattner went through the institute's training program himself in 2012 and became its director of education in 2013.
AiSA grew out of Archi's Acres, a USDA-certified organic hydroponic farm founded by Marine veteran Colin Archipley and his wife, Karen. Its Veterans Sustainable Agriculture Training (VSAT) program launched on the farm in 2007 as one of the first in the country to combine hands-on agriculture training with business education for transitioning service members. The 240-hour program covers topics from hydroponic systems to market analysis and business planning, earns 16 college credits through the University of Minnesota Crookston, and is approved for GI Bill benefits. AiSA reports more than 850 graduates.
