Co-Founder & Chief Revenue Officer, Bob Woodruff Foundation
Dave Woodruff is a co-founder and the Chief Revenue Officer of the Bob Woodruff Foundation, where he builds the corporate and private partnerships that fuel the Foundation's growth and expand its ability to ensure that veterans and service members have what they need to succeed. Founded by the Woodruff family in 2006, the Foundation has grown into a national leader in veteran support, awarding 900 grants, funding $228 million in programs and services, and supporting 2.3 million Americans in the military community in 2024 alone. Its work includes the annual Stand Up for Heroes fundraiser, launched in 2007, and the national Got Your 6 network of veteran-serving organizations.
The Foundation's mission was born from the Woodruff family's own experience. In 2006, Dave's brother Bob Woodruff was severely wounded by a roadside bomb while reporting in Iraq for ABC's World News Tonight. Dave was one of the first family members to arrive at Bob's bedside in Germany, and through the long watch of his brother's recovery in a military hospital he saw firsthand the hardships military families face when a loved one is injured in combat — and the excruciating uncertainty that follows a traumatic brain injury diagnosis. He walked away convinced that the nation owes its veterans and service members all the support it can give, a promise the family formalized by establishing the Bob Woodruff Foundation that same year.
Dave served as the Foundation's first board chair before joining its executive team, where he previously served as chief development officer. He brings more than 30 years of experience in advertising and media to the Foundation's fundraising and partnership work. A Detroit native, he also serves as a Foundation representative in his hometown, supporting its work with local veteran-serving organizations in Michigan, which is home to more than 500,000 veterans. He holds a B.S. in Mass Communications from Miami University.
