CEO, PsychArmor
Dr. Tina Atherall, DSW, LMSW, is the Chief Executive Officer of PsychArmor, a national nonprofit and leader in military cultural competency training that provides free education and support to Americans who work with, live with, and care for service members, veterans, and their families. Built to help bridge the military-civilian divide, PsychArmor's online course library — anchored by its cornerstone course, "15 Things Veterans Want You to Know" — reaches employers, healthcare providers, educators, caregivers, and communities nationwide. Under Atherall's leadership, PsychArmor has grown into a leading training partner on the Governor's Challenge, SAMHSA's initiative to educate state employees on suicide prevention best practices, and joined forces with MCON HEALTH on brain health, care delivery, wellness, and suicide prevention — a collaboration featured at the MCON HEALTH Summit at MCON 2025.
A social innovation strategist with a concentration in nonprofit and social enterprise leadership, Atherall has spent two decades serving the military-connected community. In 2006 she co-founded Hope For The Warriors, an organization dedicated to serving combat-wounded service members and their families, and helped scale it from a grassroots effort into a national platform while working with military leadership, government agencies, corporations, and communities. Her earlier career also includes roles with Blue Star Families and Touro College.
Atherall earned her Doctor of Social Work from the University of Southern California and holds advanced certificates in nonprofit leadership, military family readiness, and military social work, along with certification as a Daring Way Facilitator. She teaches as an Associate Adjunct Professor at Columbia University School of Social Work and serves as adjunct faculty in the Doctor of Social Work programs at Simmons University and the University of Kentucky, where her scholarship focuses on the Grand Challenges for Social Work and eradicating social isolation among military families.
Her leadership has been recognized well beyond PsychArmor: she was appointed to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) National Advisory Council within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, selected as a George W. Bush Institute Stand-To Veteran Leadership Program scholar in 2021, and served as committee lead for the Council on Social Work Education's Military Social Work Specialized Practice review committee. She also chairs the board of San Diego-based Mission Edge and holds board positions with Task Force Movement and Project Healing Waters.
