Eric B. Elbogen, Ph.D., ABPP, is a licensed clinical psychologist and Director of the National Veterans Financial Resource Center (FINVET) at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Duke University School of Medicine.

Dr. Elbogen leads national research, education, and program efforts that equip the VA and the community with practical tools and resources for addressing financial well-being in Veterans as an upstream approach to suicide prevention. Most recently, he was lead author of a 2026 study in JAMA Network Open that combined VA healthcare records with national credit bureau and mortality data, showing that sharp drops in credit score, missed mortgage payments, and repossession were significant risk factors for Veteran suicide. He has written and lectured widely on financial well-being, violence risk, criminal legal involvement, and suicide prevention in military Veterans.
