Max Rohn

Max Rohn is a decorated U.S. Navy veteran, motivational speaker, and proud representative of America’s VetDogs who continues to redefine resilience and leadership on and off the field. Drawing deeply from a family legacy of service—his grandfather served in WWII—Max began his life of helping others as a lifeguard and EMT before enlisting as a Fleet Marine Force hospital corpsman.
On May 2, 2009, during his first combat deployment, Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Rohn was serving with the 2nd Marine Headquarters Group in Fallujah, Iraq, when his vehicle was struck by an RKG-3 grenade. HM3 Rohn sustained severe damage to both his legs in the blast. After two years of limb salvage, Max made the decision to have doctors amputate his right leg. Max earned the Purple Heart for injuries he suffered in Iraq in May 2009 and set him on a journey of profound physical and emotional recovery.
In the years since his injury, Max has accomplished many things. He received his bachelor’s degree in international politics from Penn State University and trained in track and field at the Olympic Training Center where he met his wife, Victoria. As an adaptive athlete, he competes internationally in men’s discus. In 2025, Max is honored to represent Team USA at the Para World Championships in New Delhi, India, inspiring veterans and civilians worldwide to seek support, embrace new beginnings, and champion causes impacting the disabled veteran community.
Central to Max’s purpose today is Luce, his skilled, custom trained service dog provided free of charge by America’s VetDogs. Luce not only offers crucial support for Max’s mobility needs but also provides invaluable daily companionship and emotional grounding. For Max, Luce breaks isolation, helps interrupt symptoms of PTSD, and keeps him active in ways that would be far more challenging alone. Max frequently shares with audiences how Luce’s training and bond have been “life-changing,” and credits America’s VetDogs for empowering him to embrace new opportunities in advocacy and public speaking.
Today, Max proudly serves as a board member and speaker for America’s VetDogs, sharing his story of overcoming trauma and adapting to civilian life with the help of a service dog. Max’s journey testifies to the transformative impact of service dogs, adaptive sports, and a supportive network. His voice as an ambassador for America’s VetDogs, Team USA, Angel City Sports, Team Semper Fi, and more encourages others facing adversity to pursue independence, healing, and renewed purpose.
