Tyler Grey

Tyler Grey is a former US Army Ranger sniper and US Army Tier 1 SMU Operator with almost 10 years in US Army Special Operations. He has extensive combat experience from multiple tours in in Afghanistan and Iraq. He is now a leading advocate for veterans’ mental health, specializing in PTSD and traumatic brain injury (TBI). He is the creator of the LTSD (Lack of Traumatic Stress Disorder) theory, a new and groundbreaking concept that explains the brains’ reaction to a prolonged environment versus PTSD which is an event-based diagnosis. It shows that the neurological rewiring that occurs over time can result in chaos addiction where chaos feels normal and calm feels uncomfortable giving many veterans a new level of understanding of their own struggles. His military career came to an abrupt and life-altering halt when he was seriously wounded during a nighttime raid in Sadr City, Iraq. The injuries sustained led to a long grueling recovery process, spanning multiple surgeries and nearly four years of rehabilitation.
After being medically retired from the military, Tyler faced an even greater challenge—the transition to civilian life. Struggling with the loss of identity, purpose and the team mentality that had defined him for years, he hit rock bottom before making the decision to rebuild himself. Determined to find a new identity, purpose and team, he turned to storytelling, using his personal experiences to challenge conventional approaches to PTSD and veteran mental health. His acclaimed documentary, That Which I Love Destroys Me, won a 2015 Voice Award for its outstanding contribution to mental health awareness and became a key resource for mental health professionals at Walter Reed and Bethesda hospitals.
In 2017, Tyler transitioned into the entertainment industry starting as a military technical advisor on movies and on the CBS/Paramount+ series SEAL Team. Over the course of seven seasons, he has been instrumental in shaping the show’s authenticity, serving as a producer, taking on a recurring acting role, being a writer on the show and directing multiple episodes. His work in Hollywood has provided him with a renewed sense of purpose and a new elite team—allowing him to use entertainment as a powerful tool to bridge the gap between military and civilian experiences, foster understanding, and inspire change.
As an author, speaker, and filmmaker, Tyler Grey brings a raw, unfiltered perspective on trauma, resilience, and personal transformation through reinvention. His work is driven by a passion for helping others navigate their own path to recovery, growth, and purpose—whether through mental health advocacy, storytelling, or challenging outdated paradigms on trauma and healing.
